Day-by-Day. February 9th (January 27th)

Our Foundation

And the rain descended, and the floods came,

and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not:

for it was founded upon a rock (Mt.7, 25)

One beautiful morning two little birds flew out to build nests. One of them chose a wonderful corner in-between thick bushes. Air was full of aroma of fresh grass; a river was running below, sparkling during sunny days and reflecting countless starts at night. But suddenly a storm came; river turned into a fearsome stream, went out of its banks and flooded everything around, destroying everything on its way. The tree was broken and the nest of a poor birdie got destroyed. She made it too low to the ground, counting on warm sunny days and calm nights only.

The other bird went up high and made a nest on a rock in a high mountain. Life went on and the nest got filled with little baby birdies. Storm came and marched through  the plains down below, but did not reach the heights of the mountain. And in the morning, when the sun came out again, the nest was still in its place.

Where did we build our nest? Where is the foundation of our thoughts and feelings? Is or soul standing on a firm unshakable foundation of faith, ready to withstand any temptations and seductions, or did we build our “house upon the sand, - and great will be the fall of it”? ”For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ”. (1 Cor.3, 11)
