God’s Will

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Lk.11, 2)

The best thing for a man on earth is to do God’s will. Not sometimes, often unwillingly, but how it is done in Heaven.

The thirst three parts of the prayer are directed to the Father: Thy Name, Thy Kingdom, Thy Will. Christ taught men to put God on the first place, which belongs to Him. Fists – heavenly, then – earthly; first – spiritual, then – bodily; first – God’s, then – man’s. Christ takes people’s eyes, which are glued to the surroundings, and lifts them up to the Father and to what is related to Him.

It is different with us: ours is first. Our worries, needs, work consume everything and we run with all that baggage to God as to the last resort. But at the same time He might have no place in our life whatsoever. And this is the reason for wrongful, sinful, pointless existence. Christ recognizes only one order of things and proclaims it in this wondrous prayer.

When a man adopts this truth in his soul, only then the real Christian life begins for him. Looking first of all for the will of God and doing it wherever it is given to him, he comes into the area of the Kingdom of God and starts to learn and glorify the Name of the One, Who gives every grace and fulfills every need. The balance is instilled in his soul, and the will of God gets accepted not just with a sorrowful obedience, but is done with full energy and trust of a faithful love.

Once school kids were asked: “How do you think the will of God is done in Heavens?” A lot of replies were “with pleasure”, “now”, “joyfully”, etc… The last voice belonged to a little girl, who devoutedly said” “Without asking “why”! True - with trust, which does not ask questions, but simply does the will of God. Those do fulfill the will of God, who consciously say this third petition and coordinate their lives according to it.
