Lessons of the Lord
Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it,
and dung it: and if it bear fruit (Lk.13, 8-9)
This parable is amazingly descriptive of mercy and patience of the Lord. If only we could have the smallest part of this patience towards our neighbors! The fig tree, which was not bringing fruit for three years – is all of us, who so often and for so long resist directions from God. Lord attempts to bring us to our senses, sends us lessons every day, which we ignore, leads us to the path of righteousness, which we constantly wonder off. And finally, when every human would have run out of patience and left us to our destiny, even then Lord is patient with us and gives us a chance to repent, turn away and walk away from the path to death.
Let us be attentive to the voice of the Lord. Let us remember how often we abuse His mercy, let us use everything what Lord is offering to us and let us make sure that this last chance, given to us to change and repent, would not be wasted!
Lord is patient with us, He is awaiting the fruit – let us use all of our power and sincere desire to bring that fruit forward. Let us turn for help to the One, Who never turns down anyone, not even the one, who came to Him in the twelfth hour.
