Day-by-Day. September 30th (17th)
God is Faithful
God is faithful, who will not suffer you
to be tempted above that ye are able (1 Cor.10, 13)
Remember, that “God is faithful” and that “He will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Cor.10, 13) And when praying “lead us not into temptation”, we do recognize the possibility of this temptation, which can always happen to us. When tempting us, Lord also appears unto us in His almightiness. “We had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead” (2 Cro.1, 9)
It happens sometimes that self-love mixes into our faith, hope and charity. And no matter how little it can be, it must be destroyed completely, until nothing of ourselves remains in us and Lord becomes everything in everything for us.

“Wherefore… flee from idolatry” (1 Cor.10, 14) And what is this idolatry? It is when we, loosing the sight of the only real reason for everything, i.e. the will of God, pay attention to the secondary matters, the matters of men.
When we see the Only Lord before us, not expecting help from anyone else, hoping in Him only, we will become a new being. He will restore everything within us and we will realize that the past is in the past and everything is new now. Keep your eyes on Jesus, listen to His Words, give thanks to Him for those temptations, which bring a true realization if His mercy. Expect the daily bread from Him every day.
Lay your hopes upon Him even when He seems too far away, beyond your reach, when your path is so hard and trials are above your strength. Learn then to walk the path of the Lord always remembering, that “God is faithful” and that His undefeatable power will work in your weakness, in your poverty.
