God’s Promises
Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe (Ps.118, 117)
Promises of the Lord are not limited by any number or time, but are constantly renewed for us, covering everything. “He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee” (Job 5, 19). So, there is not a day when our Lord would not be ready to help us. But we don’t realize this right away; even Peter did not trust the Lord, when he started to drown in fearsome waters. However “immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand, and caught him” (Mt.14, 31) It was enough for Peter, weakened by the fight, just stretch his hand to Christ, and he was immediately saved. Lord condescended to his fear and only said: “O thou of little faith, wherefore didst though doubt?”

Even until now the Lord is asking this question to us over and over again. We though we had a lot of faith, but what do our doubts, grumble and hesitations mean? Maybe that we, like Peter, turn away from Christ, in only Whom our salvation is, and look instead at what is around us, at what disturbs us, finding even in future something that would bother us.
“O thou of little faith, wherefore didst though doubt?” All of our trouble is in this doubt. Let us look at Christ, let us be firm and the waves of life will not flood us, and we will say with confidence: “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed” (2 Cor.4, 8-9)
